ASIS International’s CPP Credential

Self-improvement proponent Brian Bugge is the owner of www.ProvocativeIdeas.com and www.BrianBugge.com. A managing director of security operations at IRI Global, LLC, in Connecticut, Brian Bugge is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) registered with the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS Intl). That designation signifies that he is "Board Certified in Security Management."

The CPP credential demonstrates knowledge and skill in the seven core domains of security. These include security principles and practices, business principles and practices, investigations, personnel security, physical security, information security, and crisis management.

The credential is awarded to people who have passed ASIS International’s CPP exam. To be eligible for the exam, a person must have at least nine years’ security work experience with three of those years being in a supervisory role, or a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years’ security experience, three of which were in a supervisory role. The exam consists of 200 questions and may contain 25 unscored questions distributed randomly throughout the test. The exam measures a candidate’s knowledge of the seven core domains of security management. There is a re-certification requirement every 3 years.

The CPP designation was recently recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security as a "Qualifying Anti-Terrorism Technology" under the U.S. SAFETY Act. That QATT "Designation" gives the CPP certification many unique legal advantages in any lawsuit filed in regard to any act of terrorism committed against a company, if that company has a CPP directing their security operations.
